2017 Made in the West Film Festival highlights

Relive the fun of our biggest and best ever gala event as you check out our 2017 Red Carpet Highlights video from Made in the West Film Festival, featuring red carpet interviews with the winners and clips from the winning films!

Let us remind you too, that this year’s festival was something quite out of the ordinary. We saw an amazing jump in the number of films submitted – over 50 films were made by Western Sydney filmmakers this year – that’s one film every week!! – and we were blown away by their quality. When it came down to selecting the finalists, there were 34 films that we could see were a cut above the rest. Bringing that number down to 18 finalists was difficult, and that’s why, for the first time ever, we announced 16 semi-finalists in the lead up to this year’s festival. These are the short films that only JUST missed out on being included in the line-up on the night.

We also recognised three younger filmmakers this year for their inspiring efforts in film production. Bella, Jasper and Nicholas submitted entries that were impressive, especially considering their experience, outdoing other film producers that were twice, sometimes three times, their age. Beware Western Sydney, these high school-age filmmakers are hot on the heels of our careers in film!

Once again, we offer a HUGE thank you to everyone involved in Made in the West 2017 – from the 55 entrants, 18 VIP finalists, 16 semi-finalists, 3 major trophy winners, 6 individual award winners and 3 inaugural Spirit Award winners who submitted films, to our VIP judges, sponsors, hosts, SSP and event crew and of course our 270-strong audience who contributed to the success of this year’s event – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Follow us on our Facebook page to keep up with our festival news over the summer, because just between you and us, #HINT: We’ve got some great news coming!

Made in the West will be back in 2018.
