Ever wondered what it takes to pull off Western Sydney's biggest celebration of local film?
Spoiler alert: it takes an incredible team of passionate people who believe in the power of storytelling and community. And guess what? We're looking for YOU to join our 2025 crew!

Save the date because on Saturday 22 November 2025, Event Cinemas Liverpool will transform into the epicentre of Western Sydney film celebration.
Picture 330 excited film lovers, a red carpet buzzing with local talent, and the electric atmosphere of a community coming together to celebrate its stories.
But here's the thing – none of this magic happens without our amazing crew working behind the scenes (and sometimes right in the spotlight!).
From the moment doors open at 6pm until the last filmmaker leaves with their trophy, every single detail is orchestrated by people who are passionate about supporting local film. And the best part? Many of our crew members find that working with Made in the West becomes one of their favourite events of the year.
Whether you're a seasoned industry professional, a film student, or someone who just loves being part of something special, we've got roles that'll get you right into the heart of the festival action.

Are you comfortable in front of crowds? Love celebrating achievements? Have a knack for keeping energy high and audiences engaged?
Our MC role is perfect for someone who can command the stage, and it's our most exciting paid position of the night.
But what will you do as our MC? You'll host the entire festival evening with confidence and charisma, introduce special guests, run the Audience Choice vote, keep the audience engaged and informed throughout the evening, and make sure everyone feels part of the celebration.
You'll receive payment for your hosting talents, dinner provided on the night, prime position to network on the red carpet with Western Sydney's film community, professional footage and photos of your hosting work for your portfolio, and the huge rush of hosting Western Sydney's best party of the year.

Our runners keep everything moving smoothly on festival night. If you're friendly, quick on your feet, keen to get some experience working in events, and love being part of a team that makes magic happen, this volunteer role is calling your name.
You'll assist with setup and pack-down, support crew members throughout the event, help coordinate logistics on the night, and be the go-to person for any last-minute needs.
You will get behind-the-scenes insight into how major events come together, experience working with professional film industry equipment and crew, and the satisfaction of knowing you helped create an unforgettable night.

Love talking to people about film? Want to be part of the festival atmosphere while helping filmmakers connect with their audiences? Our merchandise team gets to interact with everyone who attends, making connections and sharing the excitement of Western Sydney film, and it's a paid position too.
You'll manage merchandise sales before and during the event, chat with festival attendees about the films and filmmakers, process sales and handle customer service, and help create a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees. Think you can handle it?
You'll receive payment for your sales and customer service work, be in prime position to meet filmmakers, industry professionals and film lovers, get insight into the business side of film festivals, and the chance to represent Made in the West to the wider community.

Our front of house team creates the first impression for every person who walks into our festival. These volunteer roles are perfect for film enthusiasts who want to be part of the excitement while gaining valuable event experience.
You will welcome and check-in VIP guests, direct attendees around the venue, assist with any inquiries, and help maintain the celebratory atmosphere throughout the night.
You'll receive complimentary access to the entire festival experience, networking opportunities with industry professionals and filmmakers, the warm feeling of contributing to your local arts community, and professional references for future creative industry opportunities.
These are just some of the roles we're looking for. Of course, if you're interested in getting the experience with us but have other skills, talents or knowledge to offer, we'd love to hear from you! Contact us today to express your interest!

Working with our festival isn't just about getting a job done. Every year, our crew tells us that being involved with Made in the West gives them energy, connections, and a sense of purpose that goes way beyond a typical gig.
You'll gain real industry experience working with professional equipment and experienced crew members, networking gold with connections to filmmakers, industry professionals, and arts organisations, portfolio material including professional photos, video content, and testimonials, skills development in event management, customer service, and film industry operations, and community connection with Western Sydney's vibrant creative scene.
And, of course, our highest gratitude and thanks!
Here's what we love about our crew opportunities: you don't need qualifications or previous experience to make a real contribution. What matters most is enthusiasm, reliability, and a genuine interest in supporting local film.
Some of our best crew members started with zero festival experience and discovered they had natural talents for hosting, organising, or connecting with people. Others were film students looking for practical experience who ended up becoming regular collaborators with local filmmakers they met through the festival.

Don't just take our word for it – our past crew members consistently tell us that working with Made in the West exceeded their expectations. From the Western Sydney University students who've gained internship credits and industry connections, to the local volunteers who've discovered new career passions, being part of our team creates opportunities that extend far beyond festival night.
Many crew members have gone on to work on other film projects with connections they made through Made in the West. Others have used their festival experience to land jobs with other arts organisations or film companies. And some have simply loved being part of celebrating Western Sydney's incredible creative community.
Remember, Made in the West isn't just one night. Our festival extends through our MEGA Movie Marathon reaching global audiences online, and our summer screenings (NEW this year!) will spread across Western Sydney throughout the warmer months. Crew members often get invited to be part of these extended celebrations, meaning your involvement can continue well beyond November.
We're also always looking for people interested in being part of our year-round activities, from networking events hosted by Made in the West Creative to special screenings. Once you're part of the Made in the West family, you'll discover opportunities throughout the year to stay connected with our community.

As a social enterprise, Made in the West Creative is committed to building a thriving, inclusive screen ecosystem in Western Sydney. We exist to dismantle systemic barriers for underrepresented creatives, create meaningful pathways to paid work and skills development, and elevate local stories through community-based platforms. When you work with us, you're not just helping one festival – you're contributing to lasting change in our region's creative economy.
Whether you're drawn to the spotlight as an MC, love the behind-the-scenes action as a runner, enjoy connecting with people in merchandise sales, or want to create welcoming experiences as front of house, we've got the perfect role waiting for you!

Our 14th annual festival kicks off on Saturday 22 November 2025 and is shaping up to be our most exciting yet, with an incredible lineup of Western Sydney films and the biggest celebration our community has ever seen.
We're building something special here – a platform where diverse creatives are visible, valued, and supported to build sustainable careers and tell powerful stories on their own terms.
Want to be part of the magic? Get in touch through our Contact Us page and let us know which role interests you most. Don't worry if you're not sure – we're happy to chat about what might be the best fit for your interests and availability.
