Made in the West TV wraps for 2019!

The SSP team was in the studio this week shooting a television show with our all-Western Sydney crew made up of students, graduates and alumni from WSU. It was great to be back again at Parramatta campus, in our element and at the helm of the studio like good ol' times.

Made in the West TV was brought about thanks to the very generous support of Western Sydney University. The show features interviews with our major award winners, snippets from our three trophy-winning films, plus highlights from this year’s festival.

We were thrilled to welcome our host Sunil Badami for his second year on the show and back to his old stomping ground of Western Sydney to discuss all things filmmaking and short films. He was an enthusiastic host for the show and definitely got some great conversation going with our special guests on stage.

Joining him were this year’s major trophy award winners - Matias Bolla (winner of 'Best in the West' and the ‘Audience Choice Award’ for Campesinos), Emily Bui (winner of 'Best Student Film' for Ankara Pride) and Vonne Patiag who was honoured with our Spirit of the West award at the festival after his fifth (in a row!) finalist film was screened. (For those of you playing at home, his titles include: The Dead Man’s Face Was My Own, Yang, Window, Shading and Tomgirl).

Together, they spoke about their films, their highlights of the night at Made in the West and what it's like to be making films in Australia’s most culturally diverse region.

We’re pretty excited to be able to offer this kind of publicity opportunity to local filmmakers and we have to say a HUGE THANKS to the School of Humanities & Communication Arts at Western Sydney University for their generous donation. Special thanks must go to Professor Peter Hutchings, Christine Croser and Rachel Morley for their ongoing support.

Thanks must also go to David and Addy for hosting us in your studio - it was great to work with you!

And last but not least, we'd like to say a big thanks to Regina, Emily, Amarullah, James, Ashley, Oliver and Laura for joining our crew on the day, and of course big love to our Still Searchin’ crew Casey, Jay, Misty and Ross.

To have access to state-of-the-art studio equipment at our fingertips and an awesome crew of WSU Media Arts students was an awesome experience and we had so much fun!

We can’t wait to share the final result with you all soon. Stay tuned because we’re releasing this bad boy in the coming weeks - just in time for Christmas! Another great episode of Made in the West TV - what more could you ask for?

Made in the West Film Festival was held on Saturday 23 November 2019 at Event Cinemas Liverpool. We’ll be back in 2020 for our ninth annual festival and watch this space because we MAY have a few new surprises in store for you next year!

In the meantime, you can follow our adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and check out our photo gallery from the 2019 red-carpet event.
